Celebrities, are 'idols' a bit of a cliche?
Well Nigella Lawson is my idol, but really do we actually 'know' these people, surely idols are supposed to be someone we know personally? Someone we can be close to, talk to, learn from? Unless of course there are idols and then the seperate tag of 'people you look up to'?
I think that a lot of celebrities are highly overrated like they get in the press for there sense of "fashion" or dramatic "weight loss" what kind of a role model is this to the young generation? Losing ridiculous amounts of weight willl cause fame and fortune. NO. we shouldnt inforce this as this could really mess up our future generation. I think idols are people who have really gone through a lot and you know their experiences first hand. I think its okay to look up to celebrities but i think only worthy people who have done well for themselves like nigella, david tennant whoopi goldberg etc should be seen as "celebrities" instead of these pathetic wannabes.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you there! I mean for instance, you see celebrities - front page, doube page spread also, of themselves in a complete mess and out there they have fans and I am sure plently of people our age, any age, look up to them, when they are not setting an 'example'. People who have actually worked for the stages in their careers, who have fought through things to maybe regain world peace etc... What to they get? Those people are the sorts of people who really deserve the respect, instead of the attention seekers who want to get 'papped' whilst on a night out looking like complete fools.
ReplyDelete*What do they get?
ReplyDeleteI completley agree melissa, i mean if your idol is britney spears and she shaves her hair to get attention. what do you think the typical teenager will do or even a young child - when they dont get what they want? i mean they will react in the same way as their beloved celeb who they aspire to be like - i mean i've seen documentaries where girls are gettting boob jobs to look like katie price. What kind of an example is that? i mean recently shes's chucked alex reid and has her next husband lined up. Her rold models are going to thing this is normal and "cool" and anorexia will become a fashion statement. And i mean young girls are dieting far before there time because they feel odd and different if they dont. What worries me is the age is getting younger each generation. If it keeps going like this will size 10 be seen as obese? thats just completley bonkers. So i dont think they should be seen as "idols" when they do nothing idolistic - all they do is a claim for fame and are hungry for money, publicity and attention.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with that, funnily enough when I referred to front page news I meant Katie Price recently. Who is your idol, and why Louu? <3
ReplyDeleteReally? well i remembered britney on the papers and yes katie price recently.
ReplyDeleteand well i would have to say Whoopi Goldberg because she is an insanely talented actress - you probably know her best from sister act but she was in Ghost Too as Oda Mae Brown. I think shes insanely talented theres a wax work of her in madame tussads and i think that her and others like her deserve the respect instead of "big" names like Jordan and Britney.
Any other idols apart from Nigella Melissa? Perhaps not a celebrity?
Whoopi Goldberg is amazing... she was great on Ghost! LOVE THAT FILM.
ReplyDeleteWell I have idols like my family, I look up to Nigella Lawson and Celine Dion: I look up to Nigella Lawson as she was a journalist - which inspired me, she has been through so much - her life has been so traumatic, she lost her Mum to cancer when she was in her mid-20s, she met her first husband John Diamond who was a journalist like her, they met whilst in their job, his quote once was "How proud I am of you and what you have become. The great thing about us is that we have made us who we are" this was before he died of throat cancer at the age of 47 when his and Nigella's children were 7 and 4 years of age, and whilst Nigella was pregnant with her and John's daughter her sister died also of cancer. She is so strong to have gone through all that, raised their children as a single parent, eventhough she has a husband, but it's obviously not the same. I love how she is so shameless, and proud, and not afraid of who she is. How she followed what her late husband John got her into: her cooking shows and writing books, which she has gained passion for ever since. How she seems such a great, immaterialistic person in interviews and her quotes and opinions. I feel sorry for how insecure she is in interviews that I have seen and read, and that she doesn't care what she looks like as long as she is comfortable - that is the real world, she reflects real women. Her quote "what people think of you is none of your business, I think that is a good line to take" is amazing! I like Celine Dion as she is so family orientated and religious, she loves her fans, and she is also an immaterialistic person who concentrates on the good things in life.
Wow. i never knew about Nigella, i'll be truthfully i didnt know who she was until you and sasha spammed up my news feed but now i know a lot about her :') i also really admire Trisha goddard as shes been through a whole lot and i cant remember who it is but i think it may be celine dion? anyway some woman she had an abusive husband and one day he goes if you leave me i'll beat you to a pulp and she said go on then. i admire that kind of courage, and trisha goddard shes had a troubled life and now she has cancer to battle with. Its this kind of people we should be idolising not the loud mouths who do whatever it take to get in the papers. especially not big brother evictees that makes me sick. These people have gone through genuine life situations and are famous due to their own right not due to family or embarrasing bodies or anything. The REAL celebrities didnt plan on being famous they are just successful in their own right and deserve the fame and fans that they get. Unlike the likes of posh, jordan and britney.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. To be honest, I never heard of Nigella Lawson before I once saw her on television and to be honest I found it quite entertaining with all the supelatives and alliteration she uses. Her language is so beautiful to be honest! Then when I actually searched her on google - as you do, I found out so many things about her, and if you watch interviews and now that I have actually met her myself I understand what she is like roughly, still can't quite believe I met her! I have done great things: went to a Celine Dion concert, and to Nigella Lawson's book signing - best days of my life <3
ReplyDeleteMe too i mean i think the best celebrities that we should idolise are those who stay out of the press? i think "celebrities" are far too quick to blame the "papz" and "pressure" of being famous. It sounds like an excuse to me. i mean everyone can get bad press, i understand that. But to get it repeatedly its a bit like they are pining of it. I mean david tennant got a lot of bad press for dating his "daughter" Georgia Moffat. i didnt understand the problem really? it was his on stage daughter. Yes theres an age difference but if you love someone, and truly do that shouldnt matter. But at the end of the day it could've been a lot worse. But david stuck it out and didnt retalliate and now they are getting married with a baby on the way so i think this goes to show you that it isnt really the "papz" fault afterall to be quite honest.
ReplyDeletealso when i went to the muse concert - undescribable <3
ReplyDeleteAge is just a number hey... Nigella and her husband Charles have a 14 year age gap, and Celine Dion and her husband have a 26 year age gap... They have just had two twin baby boys from IVF. As long as you love eachother, everything is perfect, and if it feels right. It's right. :)
ReplyDeleteExactly, my point stands that yes the press sometimes pick out things to try and trigger a retalliation but if you get "papped" doing stupid things its your own fault for retalliating. You obviously know what going out dressed in near to nothing or getting off your head will lead too. even if you arent a celeb it has consequences. But they really milk a situation like woe is me and that isnt right. So if you dont retalliate you wont get this bad press. and you will be seen as a REAL celeb instead of the ones not worthy of being labelled as a "celebrity"
ReplyDeleteYeah it's best to just get on with you life... "it's none of your business what anyone else thinks about you" this is my quote I always follow - as you can tell ;3
ReplyDeleteAh melissa you do follow a lot of quotes dont you >_< i think those who get "papped" do it because of their own actions and they love it - so they should really take responsibility of their actions thinking about little ones who may idolise them today.
ReplyDeleteYeah i know right... to be honest I don't think they even consider others they are too involved in themselves. I do love quotes (A)
ReplyDeleteI agree i think fame makes them very selfish and in a way naiive to the world around them and they become very selfcentered and think of no one apart from themselves. and yes you do ;)
